Conduct and Judicial Status

Fraternity & Sorority Commons is committed to transparency and accountability within the fraternity and sorority community at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). This page provides information about chapter conduct, current statuses, and organizations that are not recognized by the Institute.

Conduct and Sanctioning

Conduct matters involving fraternities and sororities may be reviewed by multiple entities, including:

  • Fraternity & Sorority Commons
  • The Dean of Students / Student Rights, Responsibilities, and Conduct
  • Inter/national organization headquarters

For additional information about a specific case, please contact our office or the Dean of Students.

If you believe a chapter has violated university policy, law, or community standards, you are encouraged to report it. Concerns involving violations of an organization’s internal policies should be directed to that organization’s headquarters.

Chapter Status Overview

The following information reflects the status of fraternity and sorority organizations at RPI. Organizations may be listed as currently under sanction or unrecognized as a result of investigations conducted by inter/national headquarters, the Dean of Students / Student Rights, Responsibilities, and Conduct, Fraternity & Sorority Commons, or a combination of these entities.

Make Informed Decisions

Students and families are encouraged to make informed choices when considering fraternity or sorority involvement.

“Off-campus,” “underground,” or suspended organizations operate without university oversight and are not part of the recognized fraternity and sorority community. These groups do not meet Institute standards and may present significant risks.

Affiliating with or participating in activities hosted by unrecognized organizations may violate the Student Code of Conduct and could result in disciplinary action.

Our Community Standards

Recognized fraternities and sororities are expected to:

  • Follow the Code of Student Conduct
  • Meet established community standards and expectations
  • Align with the values of their inter/national organizations and governing councils

We value our partnership with organizations that contribute positively to the campus community and uphold these expectations.
