At the heart of our vision, mission, and values lies our motto:

"We EDUCATE. We ENGAGE. We EMPOWER."

Vision
To support an ecosystem where students find belonging and success in designing their campus experience.

Mission
The Division of Student Experience at RPI empowers students to succeed by providing academic, personal, and professional support. We work to foster an inclusive environment that enables our students to cultivate their passions, develop lifelong skills, and thrive at RPI and beyond.

Values

“Developing Resilience & Achieving Success”

We hold our students to high expectations because we believe in their ability to meet them. We help them rise to challenges, not through fortitude alone, but through collaboration, adaptability, and self-compassion. At RPI, tenacity is about striving together and supporting each other through adversity.

As Student Experience professionals, we help students navigate barriers to their education. We hold ourselves to the same high standards as we hold our students and collaborate across campus to better serve our populations.

“Embracing Opportunities & Collaboration”

We encourage students to invest in their education, their research, and their out-of-classroom experiences. We facilitate engagement through consistent and persistent support services as well as experiences that facilitate social interaction and education.  At RPI, we believe that engagement helps students contextualize their experiences.

As Student Experience professionals, engagement means collaborating with other offices across campus to best serve our students. We stay connected to the RPI student experience through our daily student interactions. We challenge ourselves to develop professionally and be leaders in the field of student development.

“Supporting Mental, Physical, and Social Health”

We recognize that well-being is built through meaningful connections, personal growth, and systems that foster safety, belonging, and tenacity. We aim to create an environment where all students have the resources, support, and agency needed to navigate challenges and define success on their own terms.

As Student Experience professionals, we care for our wellness and cultivate the supportive culture that enables well-being. We honor rest, connection, and balance as shared priorities. We recognize our achievements, celebrate our successes, and work together to process difficulties in our work. By emphasizing well-being for all, we build a healthier foundation for the community to flourish.

“Fostering Effective Communities of Support”

We cultivate belonging by affirming that each student’s identity is an integral part of our community fabric. We honor cultural richness, promote dialogue, and design programming that nurtures inclusion and connection.  By holding ourselves accountable to these values, we strive to build a campus where every student can not only persist, but flourish.

As Student Experience professionals, we cultivate a culture of belonging by recognizing that each colleague’s identity, perspective, and lived experience strengthens our shared work. We create spaces where authenticity and resilience are celebrated. Staff hold each other accountable to inclusive practices so that we best serve the RPI community.

“Embracing the Complexity of an Ever-Evolving World”

We recognize that our students are navigating a complex, interconnected, and often uncertain world. We encourage students to embrace intellectual curiosity, question their assumptions, and learn to navigate the world with deep understanding and empathy. As a result, students will learn that truth goes beyond the surface – it involves understanding the finer details of the world around us.

As Student Experience professionals, we acknowledge that our students and colleagues always have more to teach us. We approach learning as an ongoing process that embraces complexity, curiosity, and discomfort. We remain open to knowledge, experience, and new approaches as we navigate our work within the RPI community.
