Passover & Easter Observance

Passover
Starting the evening of Saturday, April 12, the Jewish community at RPI will begin observing Pesach (Passover), an eight-day celebration that commemorates the exodus of the ancient Israelites from slavery in Egypt to freedom. Many Jewish students place special importance on participating in the seder meal on the first and last nights of Pesach. With both nights this year falling on a weekend, this provides students with more flexibility to observe their religious traditions.

Easter
Christian members of the RPI community will observe the death of Jesus and his resurrection (Easter) from April 18 to April 20. Since the major holy day celebration always falls on a Sunday, its impact on attendance is minimal, though some may choose to observe Good Friday (April 18) as a special day of religious practice.

While these events coincide this year, Western Christian and Eastern Christian communities typically celebrate them on different dates due to the use of different calendar systems. This can sometimes lead to confusion when students request religious accommodations.
