Our Commitment to Religious and Cultural Observances
This inaugural message marks the beginning of our ongoing commitment to recognize and honor a variety of religious and cultural observances throughout the year, while maintaining equality and balance in representing the diverse backgrounds of the RPI community.
Observing Ramadan
Observed during the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, Ramadan is a time for prayer, reflection, charity, and fasting. Muslims who are able to fast abstain from food and water from dawn until sunset throughout the holy month. This year, Ramadan is expected to end on March 29, 2025, though the date may vary based on the moon's sighting.
We encourage everyone to be mindful that members of the RPI community may be observing Ramadan. Please be understanding and supportive by accommodating student needs, such as offering flexibility with assignments, adjusting mealtimes, or being sensitive to the effects of fasting.
Thank you for helping to make RPI a welcoming environment for people of all faiths. If you have any questions about Ramadan or how to best support one another, please feel free to contact Father Jordan Lenaghan, OP DMin, Chaplain from the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life by phone at 518-276-8622 or by email at lenagj@rpi.edu.
